The National Institute of Advanced Studies and the Bangalore Research Network will host a local node of the virtual conference on "Displacements" hosted by the Society for Cultural Anthropology. All are invited to join us to watch a screening from the main conference and to respond to a local panel of academics, conservators, and practitioners who will present ongoing work across diverse protected "scapes" in India (forest/marine/culture).
Drawing on research from the iconic sites of the Nagarhole National Park, Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary, and the Hampi World Heritage Site, presentations will focus on the everyday life of human and nonhuman residents who call these sites home. Training a critical lens on grand narratives of "national heritage" and conservation writ large, speakers consider how local residents become displaced from life and livelihood at these sites.
Please join us on Friday, April 20, 2018, at 4 pm at the Conference Hall, NIAS.
Event is preceded by tea at 3.30 pm.
Open to the public. All are welcome. The event is accessible.
The event requires a signup here.
